Oct. 4, 2006: Washington High School in Parkland closes for day after student calls twice to say he’s going to shoot up campus. Pierce County prosecutors charged Andrew James Anderson, 18, with two felonies: threatening to damage the school and harassing his classmates and teachers. Trial scheduled for Jan. 24.
June 9, 2006: Clover Park High School in Lakewood closes for second time in three weeks, this time when anonymous message on MySpace.com says everyone at school will die. It follows other unsubstantiated threats in 2006 that interrupt classes at Gig Harbor High School, Bethel High School in Spanaway, Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way and White River High School in Buckley.
April 23, 2006: Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrest 16-year-old Rogers High School student accused of planning to randomly shoot students, then kill himself at school, using his stepfather’s guns. His case is sent to juvenile court.
April 7, 2006: Three Key Peninsula Middle School students – ages 12, 13, 14 – arrested by Pierce County sheriff’s deputies in purported plot to shoot teachers and students after stealing guns and setting the building on fire. They are charged in juvenile court with first-degree conspiracy to commit assault.
Dec. 2, 2004: Two 18-year-olds and 16-year-old are charged with criminal conspiracy in plot to take over Spanaway Lake High School with weapons and bombs as revenge for being picked on. Prosecutors say pair obtained maps of the school, drew maps, got access to parts of the building and tried to recruit students to their cause. They take plea deals and serve up to 90 days in jail.
Oct. 15, 2004: A 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy allegedly shoot at classmates in courtyard outside Lincoln High School, hitting 15-year-old girl in leg. Pierce County prosecutors later charge two Mount Tahoma High School students with felony assault.
March 9, 1998: Jeffery Pennick, 17, stabs teen to death and wounds two during after-school melee of some 50 students at Central Avenue Elementary in Summit. Pennick is sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Nov. 26, 1985: Heather Smith, 14, ambushes her ex-boyfriend and another boy coming out of after-school “open gym” at Spanaway Junior High School. She shoots and kills them and later kills herself on school grounds.Matt Misterek, The News Tribune
