Re: “An appalling blunder in Northshore case” (editorial, 9-6).
It’s very nice that The News Tribune will stand up for a developer’s “right to build.” However, who is going to stand up for the rights of the citizens of Northeast Tacoma who are striving to protect and save their community?
We are not just a group of wealthy people trying to save our views. We are citizens who have grave concerns with the potential impact this development will have on our schools, environment, safety and community well-being. What will the impact be to Northeast Tacoma schools when 1,200 more kids are enrolled? Boundaries will be switched, and our children will be bused across town. We will not sit by and let that happen.
We cannot turn a blind eye to environmental devastation of creeks, trees and our protected salmon. Who else will stand up for citizens’ rights in trying to protect themselves from a severe increase in traffic, congestion and crime?
To think a developer should decide what is good or right for a community is ludicrous. We all know this will be decided by a court of law. We live in a democracy where we the people decide our fate, so I guess that is who will stand up for our rights. Our strength is our numbers, and we will fight to save our children, neighborhoods and quality of life.
