A new nonprofit art center in the Hilltop area of Tacoma is seeking community donations.
The Tacoma Art Place, located in the old Friday’s Cookies facility on South 11th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, opened Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and held an open house Saturday. Its mission is to provide free or affordable access to equipment and art training to the public, serving underserved groups with scholarships and reduced memberships, with the aim of strengthening the Hilltop community through art.
Members of the community who wish to donate financially, buy memberships, donate art equipment and supplies or offer teaching or staffing services to TAP are welcome to drop donations off at 1116 S. 11th St. between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. today. All monetary donations are tax-deductible. The TAP is also hiring artists to teach for pay.
