Alex Apostle, a retired Tacoma School District administrator, has been chosen to lead a school district in Montana.
The Missoulian newspaper reported that the Missoula County Public Schools School Board voted 9-1 Wednesday to select Apostle from among four finalists.
Apostle, 60, will oversee 8,600 students and 1,200 staff members. Apostle retired from Tacoma schools in the summer of 2001 as assistant superintendent of high schools, after a 30-year education career. He has since been living in Scottsdale, Ariz., as a real estate investor.
Apostle comes from a family of educators. His brother Tony Apostle is superintendent of the Puyallup School District. His brother Paul Apostle retired as a central administrator in the Tacoma School District, and once served as principal of Wilson High School. Alex is the oldest of the three brothers, who all graduated from Wilson.
