Jaywalkers are taking their lives in their hands

Re: “Man struck by car on Meridian” (TNT, 6-26).

I feel truly sorry for what happened to this young man. But if he and his friend had been in the crosswalk, and crossing during the proper time, he likely would not have been hit.

This points to a bigger problem. People are breaking the law by jaywalking. Cars and trucks are bigger and are harder to stop. If it comes down to a confrontation between a vehicle and a human body, the human body will lose every time. That is one of the reason we have crosswalks and jaywalking laws.

While I am on my soap box, parents need to teach their children at an early age to obey jaywalking laws and fear cars and trucks
