Stop trying to put Band-Aid on problem
Last updated: August 14th, 2008 01:24 AM (PDT)

Re: “Now lake requires big antacid” (TNT, 8-12).

The Sunday after Wapato Lake was first treated, its alpine color was beautiful and the bottom was visible. The large, dead fish were awful, and the north end of the lake still smelled.

My Monday walk at the lake revealed little fish floating dead on the surface, more large fish dead, and at least two dead or dying turtles. The plant life is dying from the acid environment caused by a very expensive treatment.

We need to stop putting a Band-Aid on the problem and do something to make the lake healthy. An aerator would provide health-giving oxygen which would be good for plant and animal life. Other communities have found this to be the solution for the sick-lake syndrome.
