The attacks on Barack Obama have gone so far over the top that even a Fox News reporter has had enough. At a Sarah Palin rally, Joe the Plumber Wurzelbacher equated an Obama victory with “death to Israel.” With palpable disgust, Fox correspondent Shepard Smith had the courage and decency to excoriate and correct this know-nothing.
The McCain campaign seems to be running on all negativity, all the time. As it implodes it turns to ugly robocalls, angry rallies, race-baiting hoaxes and coordinated efforts to suppress and disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters. Meanwhile, almost preternaturally calm in the center of the storm, Obama continues to draw enormous crowds to listen to his clear, optimistic and unifying message.
On Tuesday, a tsunami of votes will sweep away the politics of hate, resentment and division and elect Obama president. Yes we can.
