THE NEWS TRIBUNE

Two Pacific Lutheran University programs that support local science and math education recently benefitted from a $120 million nationwide commitment from the Intel Foundation.

The grants include:

 • $25,000 to support the 2009 South Sound Regional Science Fair, which attracts 400 to 500 students from Pierce and Thurston counties.

 • $15,000 to support Mathletes, a math outreach and tutoring program for elementary school students, that prepares school teams for the statewide Math Olympiad.
