Seattle Sounders FC faced an opposing team for the first time Monday and recorded its first win.
The Sounders met the L.A. Galaxy in a training game at Carson, Calif., and came from behind to beat their MLS Western Division rival, 3-1.
The Galaxy jumped ahead in the third minute, when Eddie Lewis finished low and wide past FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller.
Seattle’s first goal came in the 17th minute on a penalty kick by 21-year-old forward Fredy Montero. The penalty had been drawn by No. 1 SuperDraft pick Steve Zakuani, who beat the defense inside the box.
Forward Roger Levesque, a former USL Sounder, gave Seattle its first lead in the 80th minute. Midfielder Sanna Nyassi, a 19-year-old from Gambia, settled the issue from short range in stoppage time.
The Sounders return to action today, meeting Shandong Luneng of China at Oxnard, Calif.
The Sounders begin their first MLS season March 19 at Qwest Field against the New York Red Bulls.
