POINT RUSTON: Project is working with union companies
Last updated: April 4th, 2009 12:14 AM (PDT)

Re: “Local carpenters protest nonunion wages” (TNT, 3-27).

The story regarding the carpenter picket at Point Ruston was an interesting report telling one side of the story. The other side should be told.

It should be known that Point Ruston LLC has entered into agreements with 15 construction trade unions that include the pay scale and benefit packages adopted by each and that all contractors currently working at the site are union companies.

Numerous government agencies and jurisdictions execute oversight at Point Ruston in their respective roles including the Environmental Protection Agency, Labor & Industries, the Department of Ecology, the Department of Natural Resources as well as the town of Ruston and the City of Tacoma. Each are committed, as is Point Ruston LLC, to meeting and exceeding all required worker and public safety standards.
