Paige Edmiston, a 17-year-old senior at Federal Way High School, will receive a $25,000 college scholarship for winning The True Patriot national essay contest.

“The True Patriot” authors Nick Hanauer and Eric Liu challenged American high school students to answer, “What does true patriotism mean to you?”

Edmiston’s essay, “A New Breed of Superhero for the 21st Century,” was chosen as the winner from thousands of entries.

Edmiston, co-editor in chief of her high school’s student newspaper, will be presented her prize during an assembly Friday at Federal Way High.

U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Tacoma, will join Hanauer and Liu in presenting the award. For more information or to read Edmiston’s essay, visit www.truepat.org.
