PUYALLUP: Council member has instigated turmoil

JOAN CRONK; Puyallup

Re: “Police investigate council fray” (TNT, 4-26).

I had a new idea while working in my yard. I was trying to line up a row of bricks to circle my vegetable area, but I had a hard time getting them level. I rearranged and found that if I just moved just one brick, everything changed. The whole kit and kaboodle went haywire, and it was tough to get it back in line again.

That is what has happened on our Puyallup City Council. The last election brought several new members, and one in particular has begun to cause a whole lot of turmoil. There is now dissension, anger, threats and a lot of bad behavior. Just changing one thing has done that.

Do we have to always agree? Of course not. Can we disagree and be grown-ups and continue respectful behavior? Of course we can. But that is not happening.

Do I want to attend council meetings? Not on your life. I would rather be in my garden, lining up bricks, adding compost and soil, and making them work together for the greater good of fresh vegetables.

Life is about compromise and working together. I learned that in grade school. I only wish John Knutsen and his supporters had learned the same thing.
