SUMNER: High school marching band lauded at Rose Festival

The Sumner High School Marching Band took home the “People’s Choice Award” during its participation in the 2009 Portland Rose Festival in Portland held June 5 and 6.
The band earned the award after performing its field show, “Disney’s Fantasmic,” in Portland’s PGE Park at the Friday night Bandfest. The next morning, the 100-plus members of the band marched in the four-mile long Grand Floral Parade and won the first-place award for an out-of-state band, according to a district news release. Joe Carl directs the band.
