Anyone who tries to stay current with the news probably noticed the climate change bill narrowly passing in the House last week and going on to the Senate. I didn’t know whether to rejoice or go into mourning. Will this bill help save us from rising temperatures and pollution of everything around us, or will it fail its objectives and allow us to continue “fouling our nest“?
So I began reading the position statements of the special interest groups that claim to have the inside track – “Center for…”, “Network for…..”, “the Institute for…..”, “Americans for…..” and so on. If there was a common theme in their rhetoric, it was their dislike for at least half the provisions of the bill. And typical of political wrangling, each side accused the other of selling out to special interests just to get votes.
It has been said, that any agreement disliked by everyone at the table is probably a good compromise. That may be the case here.
