Re: “Machinists’ choice: Strikes or jobs” (editorial, 7-12).
To blame the 787 delays on last year’s 53-day machinists strike is totally reprehensible. The blame rests solely on the shoulders of the board of directors and the shortsightedness of Boeing’s upper management by failing to ensure that the partners could actually deliver on their promises.
When the plane rolled out in July 2007, it was temporarily held together because there was no supply of titanium rivets to do the job right. The machinists didn’t have the tools to do the job, and that was long before the strike. The News Tribune owes the Boeing machinists an apology for the bogus editorial.
