Fife Schools superintendent gets one-year extension

The Fife School Board has extended the contract of Superintendent Steve McCammon for another year through June 2012.
At a meeting last week, the board also decided not to give McCammon a salary increase or annual performance bonus at the superintendent’s request, said board president Bob Scheidt.
McCammon asked not to receive any more money because of the current economic conditions, Scheidt said. The board kept his annual salary at $155,297. Other employees in the district haven’t been receiving raises.
Under the terms of McCammon’s rolling three-year contract, the board could have awarded him an annual performance bonus of up to $7,000, said Heidi Joyner, manager of certificated human resources. Despite McCammon’s request, two of five board members still voted to give him a performance bonus.
Scheidt said McCammon met or exceeded all of his performance goals.
“He is an outstanding leader in every way,” Scheidt said.
McCammon, 47, has been superintendent of the 3,300-student Fife School District since August 1996.
