I bought a Prius years before gas hit $4 per gallon. I bought compact fluorescent bulbs as soon as they came on the market, long before local energy companies gave huge rebates for purchasing them.
So, I am not exactly a “pave the earth” sort of guy.
But stories like “Effort to save wolves hurt by human hands” (TNT, 7-27) are the reason I could never call myself a conservationist or ally myself with “green” movements.
That story states that the population of the Mexican gray wolf in New Mexico has increased from 11 in 1998 to more than 50 in less then a decade. I thought, “Great, wolves are cool.”
But the Center for Biological Diversity says that “we are witnessing the second extinction of the Mexican wolf in the wild.”
Only a left-wing group totally unconnected with reality could equate a 500 percent population increase in 10 years as extinction. And that is why I will never belong to a “conservation” group.
