As a frequent walker in my North End neighborhood, I disagree with recent letter writers who missed the point of improvements to North 21st Street between Proctor and Alder.
The City of Tacoma engaged residents and businesses in solving multiple traffic problems in the area. Even before striping is complete, the solution has slowed traffic for safer walking in the university neighborhood, extended the bike lane system to provide transportation choices, added a much-needed left-turn lane onto Alder to accommodate car commuters and increased parking for residents.
I’m grateful to the City of Tacoma for its creativity and responsiveness to neighborhood needs. That’s why I love this city.
