The family of Harbor Lights founder Anton Barcott wishes to set the record straight regarding the Aug. 15 article on the restaurant’s 50th anniversary.
Anton Barcott opened up in 1959 after managing his father’s (John Barcott Sr.) California Oyster House, which began in 1919 in downtown Tacoma. The Lights became successful and some would say legendary under the management of his daughter, LaMoyne Hreha, and grandson Jack Hreha. Tina Heggen was the daughter, not grandaughter, of Anton and also worked there from day one.
LaMoyne Hreha was out in the grass skirt and leotards on July Fourth, not her mother Jennie. After that year, the patriotic Anton always closed so all could celebrate.
We also want to thank the Anthony’s team for honoring a Tacoma small business legacy and the family history in their anniversary celebration.
About the fish photo in Looking Back (8-9): It is fun to note that Anton caught that whopper with his daughter LaMoyne, age 13, in a row boat at the mouth of the Puyallup River. She rowed for hours so that her dad could land the fish, which is still on the Harbor Light’s wall today.
