I don’t think any of us here need to worry much about Russell Investments’ employees once the financial company leaves for Seattle. Anyone who ever worked in downtown Tacoma knows that the Russell folks are smart people with fairly high opinions of themselves. Maybe a long commute to Seattle or moving to an overpriced community closer to the new office will help Russell’s people learn a little humility.
Tacoma’s leaders need to recruit multiple businesses to fill the void that will come about due to Russell’s departure. Diversification makes good financial sense and good planning sense for Tacoma’s tax rolls.
