Halladay (16-10), who gave up seven hits and fanned nine, needed 114 pitches to collect his eighth complete game of the season. For his career, Halladay now has 48 complete games and 14 shutouts. The righty has alternated wins and losses in his last six starts.
Jose Bautista went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Blue Jays, who have won four of five. Lyle Overbay drove in the other run for the victors.
Doug Fister (2-4), who took a perfect game into the fifth, allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over 6 2/3 frames to take the loss. Fister lost his third straight start.
Kenji Johjima and Jose Lopez each had two hits for the Mariners, who won, 5-4, in the series opener.
Seattle stranded men in scoring position in each of the first four frames.
Meanwhile, Fister was dealing on the mound for Seattle. Fister retired the first 13 batters he faced before giving up a one-out single to Edwin Encarnacion in the fifth. Rod Barajas added a double two batters later to put men on second and third with two outs. Fister, though, got Travis Snider to fly out to end the threat.
Hill's two-run homer in the sixth broke a scoreless tie. Bautista stroked a one-out base hit and crossed the plate when Hill deposited a Fister offering over the wall in left.
In the top of the seventh, Seattle failed to bring home Johjima, who hit a one-out double. Halladay got Mike Carp to go down swinging and Josh Wilson to pop out to end the frame.
The Blue Jays added two insurance runs in the home half to build a four-run margin. Snider and John McDonald stroked consecutive two-out singles to chase Fister from the tilt. Chris Jakubauskas took over and unleashed a wild pitch, allowing the runners to move up a base. Bautista then hit a two-run single to left.
Overbay hit an RBI double in the eighth to account for the final margin.
Halladay worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to secure the win.
