OBAMA: President quite capable of multitasking

TERRY JOHNSON; Tacoma

Re: “President should focus on real issues” (letter, 10-9).

Granted, the issues the writer mentioned are real and very serious, but let’s think about when and how they evolved.

The last president and right-wing-controlled Congress set the agenda and policies that led to far less regulation (particularly for the financial institutions) and less taxes for the wealthy. It was this strategy for eight years that got us to where we are today, which is very similar to the Republican era that led up to the Great Depression.

Why would more of these same blunders now lead us out of this predicament? Nonetheless, this president is quite capable of walking, chewing gum and texting at the same time.

As far as the writer’s request for “some adults in his administration,” I’m not sure how to categorize the likes of John Ashcroft, Michael Brown, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales, Scooter Libby, Harriett Miers, Donald Rumsfeld and John Yoo, to name a few.

Finally, this president has not spent an inordinate amount of time down at the ranch clearing brush during his first year instead of reading presidential daily briefings.
