McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Freshman wide receiver Ross Zuhl put on a record-setting performance for the University of Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon at Maxwell Field, but the Linfield Wildcats, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, cruised to a 54-36 victory.
Zuhl caught 18 passes for 185 yards, breaking the school record for most receptions in a game, surpassing the 15 catches Darrell Stewart made last year against Lewis & Clark.
He was the favorite target for Spencer Crace, who threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns on 35-of-44 accuracy.
Crace led the Loggers on a 63-yard march with the opening kickoff for a 7-0 lead when he scored on a 4-yard keeper.
The Crace-to-Zuhl combination highlighted 377 yards of total offense for the Loggers (0-7 overall, 0-4 Northwest Conference) who trailed only 41-36 in the fourth quarter.
But Linfield (8-0, 5-0) had too many weapons. Aaron Boehme threw for 409 yards and five touchdowns on 26-of-35 passing with one interception. He also ran for three touchdowns.
Boehme scored Linfield’s first touchdown on a 1-yard keeper and he threw for the go-ahead score, 37 yards to Trevor Patterson with 4:02 remaining in the first quarter.
