UPLACE: Lorna Smith effective, approachable

RANDY GRICE; University Place

Tuesday’s election comes at an important time in the city of University Place.

City government is dealing with serious problems: It needs a stronger tax base, economic development and new businesses creating jobs.

There is also the sense that we may be at a tipping point. Despite the city’s problems and its financial restrictions, with careful experienced management and innovative initiatives University Place could make strong gains over the next few years. It is a time that requires an exceptional City Council, one with intelligence, creativity, initiative and experience.

Lorna Smith is bright, experienced, innovative, effective and blunt. She knows the city as well as anyone in government. She does her homework, always knows what she’s talking about and isn’t afraid to say what she thinks.

She has proven by her actions in my neighborhood to be a diligent, approachable and effective member of the University Place City Council.
