Sounders FC was shut out Wednesday in the first wave of postseason award announcements by Major League Soccer.

Zach Thornton of Chivas USA was selected goalkeeper of the year, and midfielder Steve Ralston of New England received the individual MLS fair play award.

Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller, a graduate of North Thurston High School in Lacey, had been among the three finalists in both categories.

Winners were determined by a vote of MLS players, general managers, coaches, referees and members of the media.

Thornton led MLS with a 0.87 goals-against average and with 12 shutouts. Ralston became the first three-time winner of the fair play award. He committed four fouls and was cautioned twice in 1,543 minutes of play.

The Chicago Fire won the team fair play award by mathematical formula that had them accumulating the fewest disciplinary points over the season.

MLS will announce its defender of the year and referee of the year today. Jhon Kennedy Hurtado is among the finalists for the defender award, along with Geoff Cameron of Houston and Chad Marshall of Columbus.
