What more could ski and snowboard addicts want in early November besides snow? Well, how about the brand new Warren Miller movie, “Dynasty,” that stars veteran Crystal Mountain skiers Ingrid Backstrom and Tyler Ceccanti?
Crystal Mountain itself plays a starring role in 71/2 minutes of the movie, including helicopter shots of skiers floating through powder and stunning views of Mount Rainier.
All of this – and the entire yearly Warren Miller ski and snowboard traveling roadshow – is blowing into Tacoma’s Pantages Theater this weekend and Olympia’s Washington Center Nov. 12-13.
Ceccanti, a world-famous freestyle skier, grew up skiing Crystal, and he’s thrilled to be in a movie that highlights the slopes he’s known since childhood.
“I’ve been skiing Crystal almost my whole life – 18 years now,” said Ceccanti, who is 20 and lives in Puyallup and Lake Tapps. “My parents have been going up there for as long as I can remember.”
Ceccanti will be at the Warren Miller booth at the Tacoma shows, and probably at the Olympia shows as well.
“I’ll be there to talk and sign autographs,” Ceccanti said.
Warren Miller photographers and skiers spent 10 days on Crystal Mountain last March – just in time for back-to-back powder dumps and some sunshine, said Tiana Enger, Crystal Mountain spokeswoman.
Photographers shot footage in South Country, Powder Bowl and off the Northway chairlift, Enger said.
“It was mostly backcountry skiing – one storm dumped two feet of snow, and then we had a bluebird day and took out the helicopter,” Ceccanti said.
The Crystal Mountain footage also includes old family films of skiers enjoying Crystal back in the day.
Ceccanti travels all over the world to find the most challenging backcountry skiing, but he says Crystal is still home.
“My family has a cabin up here, and I’m here a lot,” he said.
