POLICE: Those who kill our heroes deserve to be called terrorists

VICTORIA SHILLEY; Tacoma

Re: Police seek clues to fatal shooting of officer (TNT, 11-2).

Long before the attempted assassination of my husband, Puyallup Police Officer Gary Shilley (March 26, 2006), I had been to far too many memorial services of my heroes. Each one was more heartbreaking than the last.

On Oct, 31, a little after 10 p.m. two precious, young children lost their father. Their mother lost her husband. A father and an uncle lost not only a son and a nephew – but a brother as well, as did every other selfless law enforcement officer throughout the world. A second officer had her career, no doubt, deeply affected. The law enforcement family is in mourning.

The perpetrator of this senseless crime is nothing less than a terrorist – a domestic terrorist. A member of a sick, simple lot who have chosen to declare a “jihad” on the very best our society has to offer – our heroes.

Wake up, people. Are you not outraged? For if these terrorists will shoot and kill a uniformed officer, do you, for one minute, really think that you are safe?

I have lost yet another hero. May he rest in peace.
