A Lacey man was among the victims of the Thursday’s mass shooting at Fort Hood. Army Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning, 33, is alive and in stable condition in a Texas hospital, despite being shot six times, according to family members.
Manning took bullets in his stomach, lung, foot and leg, according to his aunt Jodeen Ridgway of Prineville, Ore.
Manning’s father was able to speak briefly with his son by telephone on Friday, Ridgway said.
Manning is an Idaho native who joined the Army in 2000. He served two tours in Iraq, in 2003 and 2006. Manning lives in Lacey with his wife, Autumn, according to Ridgway.
Manning worked in a Combat Stress Unit, as did the shooter, Maj. Nidal Malaik Hasan.
