MEDIA: Viewers encourage sensationalism by tuning in

Mike O’Connor raised some serious issues concerning the media (letter, 11-5). He laments increasing sensationalism and pandering, and would prefer a return to Walter Cronkite’s style of journalism and reporting.

Mike O’Connor raised some serious issues concerning the media (letter, 11-5). He laments increasing sensationalism and pandering, and would prefer a return to Walter Cronkite’s style of journalism and reporting.

But herein lies a sad, sobering fact: The ratings demonstrate that more people prefer “balloon boy” or Glenn Beck. Bottom line? We can point the finger of blame at the media. However, maybe we should also take a good look in the mirror.
