Re: “Back from the brink” (TNT, 11-8).
I want to commend The News Tribune and Scott Fontaine for this great article, which I believe captures the essence of our American warrior ethos. It is inspiring and refreshing for me, a veteran of 23 years service, to read about Lt. Berschinski’s distinguished actions, positive attitude and tenacious approach to life. All Americans need to see, hear and understand more about these brave men and women who keep us safe.
Our warriors and their families are not victims, they pursue their calling by proudly serving our country, going into the face of danger whatever the consequences. As Lt. Berschinki said, “Wow! ... I’m alive and I’m going to make plans from here.” Please continue to show the “can do” attitude of our troops by printing the many stories of sacrifice and bravery. This officer exemplifies the West Point motto, “Duty, Honor, Country.”
