A Tacoma native has received a national award for her work as a principal.
Leanne Dunlap, who is currently a principal at The American School of Warsaw in Poland, is one of 63 National Distinguished Principals for 2009. The program, established in 1984, recognizes exemplary elementary and middle-level principals. Dunlap, who has served at The American School for three years, won accolades for initiating a laptop computer program and developing online courses.
Dunlap attended Downing Elementary, Truman Middle and Wilson High in Tacoma and taught at McCarver and Northeast Tacoma elementary schools and Truman Middle School. She received a B.A. from the University of Washington and a Masters in education from Central Washington University.
