Re: “Bias evident in name given to anti-tax group” (letter, 11-15).
I would like to reveal the writer’s naivete or his own biased opinion. Politics, by definition, arises out of conflict over who is to operate the government and what policies the government ought to adopt. Partly due to federalism and the growth of the bureaucracy and communication explosion, we see an increase of public involvement. The quote, “If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen,” applies to both parties and their supporters.
With that said, I would remind the writer that the Republican Party is now (according to polls) in the minority. It lost the recent election and lost big time. It will, it appears, continue to do so as it alienates moderates in its own party as well as the growing minority population.
Yes, the First Amendment provides for the freedom of expression of political groups, but that includes progressives as well as conservatives. I’m quite sure that the “right-wing media” aren’t above tactics which undermine their opponents. In fact, recent media accounts have demonstrated their downright disingenuous and unconscionable name-calling in efforts to undermine the president even to the point of shameful lies and distortions.
I would suggest to the writer that he be a bit more open-minded and receptive to news from other sources than the “Fox contributors.”
