There is a huge difference between reporting the news and trying to make news (or modify it). Fox News crosses the line when it actively funds and organizes its agenda, effectively setting up its own argument and letting the 24/7 cycle be consumed by commentary regarding what it set up.
Facts have been replaced by tabloid-level gossip. When something is repeated enough, it can be just as effective as facts are. The model of integrity stemming from the true investigative reporters of the past has been remolded into an ooze of hearsay.
We no longer value intrinsic caution as we focus more on who spreads the gossip first.
