HEALTH CARE: Families worry about coverage
Last updated: November 20th, 2009 12:23 AM (PST)

I am writing in reference to the current debate going on about health care in this country.

We claim to be the greatest country in the world, yet we allow people to suffer and die because of a lack of health care. Funny, all other industrialized countries are not clambering for our system.

We want people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, get a job. Are you going to hire someone who is sickly and has their front teeth missing? I think not. We are a nation of consumption and greed. Health care should be a right, not a privilege.

I am the mother of a child with Type 1 diabetes, and the system as it is now will not protect her from being tagged with a pre-existing condition. As of now, we have decent heath coverage, but we never know what tomorrow will bring.

If we lift up from the bottom, we will all be raised higher.
