Re: “Christians also entitled to voice opinions” (letter, 11-17).
I agree wholeheartedly with the writer when he mentions several areas (and a few more could be added) where Christians seem to be the only ones not entitled to an opinion.
I just can’t see how rational, civil people can consider tolerance a one-way street. Those who label Christians as “bigots” are just as passionate about their own beliefs. (As to the use of the vitriolioc term, “homophobes,” it occurs to me that I’ve never heard anyone use the term “heterophobic.”)
“Bigot” does not define someone who has a view different from yours or refuses to agree with yours, but someone who will not allow an opposing opinion. Those who have given that label to someone need to look at themselves – and that includes people on both sides of any issue.
We Christians need to set the example for tolerance of opposing views, while at the same time being unafraid to express our own opinions appropriately.
