ART: Reviewer took gratuitous shot at gallery

Re: “Woven vessels, cross-hatched people at Sandpiper” (GO Arts blog, 11-17).

Art critic Rosemary Ponnekanti’s comments about the current show at Sandpiper Gallery left me with mixed feelings. I have no problem with her view of the work, but take exception to her supercilious statement that “when not showing misty Puget Sound photographs or water colors, Sandpiper has some good stuff.”

This gratuitous jibe does a disservice to both the quality of other works shown at the gallery and evidences no appreciation of the fact that Sandpiper constantly provides a valuable venue for local artists of merit.

While Ponnekanti does not have to value the beauty of the Wagners’ impressionistic photographs, she might remember that not everyone would prefer an image of a crucifix in a container of urine to a lovely picture of a stag on a Highland moor.
