CPARK: Retiring coach richly deserves accolades

DICK ZATKOVICH; Tacoma

Re: John McGrath’s fine article on Barry Crust (TNT, 11-22).

Crust was my mentor and fellow teacher for 11 years when I started my teaching and coaching career at Hudtloff Middle School in 1970. He was my assistant football coach, and I was his assistant wrestling and baseball coach.

He has been, and always will be, an excellent role model and educator with our young people in Lakewood. He is an outstanding coach (he was recently inducted into The Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame), a fine and caring individual, and a great friend. The well-deserved accolades are only a fraction of what he has meant to the hundreds of kids whose lives he’s influenced over the years. Hudtloff will lose a great leader. (Zatkovich is a retired Clover Park School District educator/coach.)
