Joe Kurmaskie will give a presentation Tuesday in Seattle on his summer of cycling through five African countries.
Kurmaskie, known as the “Metal Cowboy,” will tell stories and show images from his journey during which he covered more than 60 miles a day through Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique.
The event also is serving as a release party for Kurmaskie’s new book, “Mud, Sweat and Gears.” He will talk about his family’s Canadian adventure. The rode through British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan before moving to the east coast and cycling through Nova Scotia.
Kurmaskie of Portland has ridden more than 130,000 miles in places like the Australian Outback, South America and all across the United States. He has written four books based on his cycling adventures.
The 7 p.m. event will be held at Seattle REI, 222 Yale Ave. N., Seattle. The cost is $5, with cash only being taken at the door. Two members of the Cascade Bicycle Club, which is sponsoring the event, can get in two for the price of one person.
