HAITI: Whatever beliefs, help to relieve suffering
Last updated: January 21st, 2010 12:22 AM (PST)

Re: “Christians stepping up; where are atheists?” (letter, 1-21).

Where are the atheists’ donations? I suspect some of their donations will flow through the Red Cross. Others may flow to the UUA/UUSC Haiti Relief fund. The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee has been doing work around the world to end poverty for nearly seven decades.

Unitarian Universalist congregations welcome all: atheists, theists, deists, agnostics, humanists and others on spiritual paths.

Why do people with varying beliefs worship here? Because we do not have a dogma. We have seven guiding principles that honor all people and belief systems. We preach acceptance, support justice in human relations, respect the interdependent web of all existence, and support each other on our free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

As with other faith traditions, we have radical UUs as well as quiet ones. Whatever you believe and however you worship, show compassion for humanity and do what you can to help to relieve the suffering in Haiti.
