A Tacoma teacher is on paid administrative leave following an allegation that she struck a McCarver Elementary School student on the arm.

Tacoma Public Schools spokesman Dan Voelpel released the following details Friday:

The female teacher is accused of striking a fifth-grader on the arm after the student disobeyed instructions.

The incident occurred Jan. 22, and the teacher was placed on leave Jan. 25.

The woman was hired by Tacoma Public Schools as a substitute teacher in 2003 and as a regular teacher in 2007. She has no prior discipline issues and no unsatisfactory ratings in her work evaluations.

While a school district investigation proceeds, the teacher will be paid $281.40 per day.
