Sounders to play a charity friendly against Timbers

Seattle Sounders FC will play a charity friendly against the Portland Timbers at 6 p.m. on March 11 at Qwest Field.

General admission tickets for the inaugural “Community Shield” go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6 through 17.

Proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington State, Save the Children, Seattle SCORES and Washington Youth Soccer.

The Timbers will play this season as members of U.S. Soccer Federation Division 2 before joining Major League Soccer next season. The Sounders will begin their second MLS season March 25 at Qwest Field against the Philadelphia Union.
