A Federal Way man faces charges of second-degree identity theft and forgery after he allegedly faked court documents to establish four false names in Washington.
Steven Daniel McGee, 35, used the aliases to open bank accounts, obtain loans and work at two credit unions while collecting food stamps, court documents state. He was arraigned Feb. 12 in Pierce County Superior Court and is being held in the Pierce County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
Also according to court documents:
Since March 2000, McGee has used the names Brooke Daniel Parker, Regan Parker Stephens, Parker Daniel McGee-Stephens and Robin Drew Parker, each with a validly issued driver license or state identification card.
He was indicted in Vermont for allegedly stealing $42,000 from a Wal-Mart where he worked. McGee, who was born in Texas, also has identities in Virginia, Arkansas and Idaho under a variety of names.
The local investigation started July 2009, when a loss-prevention specialist from Harborstone Credit Union contacted Fife police about theft and fraud involving a former employee. According to charging documents, McGee worked as a teller at Harborstone from February to April 2009. Before that, he was a teller at Qualstar Credit Union in Tukwila from January 2008 to December 2008, when he was fired for stealing $3,000 from customer accounts.
Fife police arrested McGee at his home Feb. 11. Investigators said they found a filing cabinet with documentation of McGee’s aliases. They also discovered a box with official-type rubber stamps, seal embossers, counterfeit birth certificates and birth certificate blanks, records state.
Police think McGee used the stamps and embossers to create fake court documents, then use them to get name-change court orders and other forms of identification.
McGee sent letters to the Social Security Administration saying he was abused by a domestic partner and requested a new Social Security number, investigators say.
At the time of his arrest, McGee had been receiving food stamps for several months, based on his claim that he hasn’t worked since 2007. On his public-assistance application, he said that he was living with his aunt, Shirley Parker, and his sister, Robin Parker, whose Social Security number he allegedly used to get a driver license.
McGee will appear March 16 in Pierce County Superior Court. The case still is under investigation, prosecuting attorney Lisa Wagner said. The state will file additional charges for the offenses of collecting loans and public assistance through forged documents.
