South Sound residents will have a chance to offer their recommendation for a name for the state park to be built at the confluence of the Nisqually and Mashel rivers, near Eatonville.

The State Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 8 a.m. on Thursday at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Drive S.W., Lakewood.

At the meeting, the commission is scheduled to take public testimony on the name.

The State Parks staff has been working for three years to come up with a development plan for the park, a 1,230-acre property along Highway 7, south of Pack Forest.

The latest plans call for an investment of at least $10 million for hiking and horse trails, campgrounds and observation areas. The original plan called for some of the facilities to be completed by 2013, the 100th anniversary of the state parks department.

Written comments received by noon on March 8 will be provided to the commission before the meeting.

If you wish to receive a copy of this agenda item or provide written comments, contact Nata Hurst at: Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, P.O. Box 42650, Olympia, WA 98504-2650; 360-902-8638 or nata.hurst@parks.wa.gov.
