HEALTH CARE: Benefits outweighed by flaws

MARIAN HAGENER; Tacoma

The devil is truly in the details of the enormous 2,700-page health care bill. The value of its benefits seems outweighed by the cost, loopholes, exceptions and special favors. I wish its provisions were shorter, more transparent and affordable. It seems the proverbial baby has been drowned by the bathwater.

There are times when doing nothing is better than “something” we can’t afford – despite the need and urgency – especially given the probability of Moody’s lowering our bond rating in the international marketplace. I am disgusted that our members of Congress serve us so poorly, Republicans and Democrats alike.
