Five-star recruit Terrence Jones renounced his oral commitment to the University of Washington on Wednesday and signed a financial aid agreement with Kentucky, according to multiple reports including the Louisville Courier-Journal and the (Portland) Oregonian.
Jones, a 6-foot-9 forward from Jefferson High School in Portland, is a McDonald’s All-American who ranked among the top 10 national prospects available this season.
He had given his oral commitment to the Huskies during an April 30 event at his high school gym. However, he admitted he had arrived that day without knowing which school he was going to pick. And he almost immediately seemed to be second-guessing his decision, even as he posed for pictures with a UW cap on his head.
Most importantly, he never signed his binding letter of intent.
And, according to reports, he still hasn’t. A financial-aid agreement is a different and non-binding document that would allow Jones to change his commitment again if, for example, Kentucky coach John Calipari leaves for the NBA, as has been rumored.
Without Jones, UW now has a three-man recruiting class of 6-foot-5 guard Terrence Ross, 6-7 forward Desmond Simmons, and 7-foot center Aziz N’Diaye. One scholarship remains available.
