Volunteer to help save salmon

THE NEWS TRIBUNE

The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group is looking for outdoor enthusiasts, sport fishermen and conservationists to help with salmon recovery efforts.

The group’s fall supplementation season is about to begin at Union River and Tahuya River wild salmon supplementation sites from Aug. 15-Oct. 15. Volunteers will work one-on-one with salmon in varying shifts throughout the day. Activities include counting fish, spawning and egg collection, assistance with genetic sampling and monitoring trap sites. No experience necessary. Daytime and overnight volunteers can use a heated RV on site. The group also is looking for volunteers to help with other projects such as knotweed control, helping at the office answering phones, doing data entry, painting, construction and gardening.

To sign up or for more information, contact Julie at 360-275-3575 or by sending an e-mail to Julie@hcseg.org. You can learn more about the group at www.hcseg.org.
