Recreational visits at Mount Rainier National Park are running 5.6 percent higher than in 2009, according to the latest statistics.
Good weather continues to attract visitors, the vast majority of whom come from the Puget Sound region.
Through July, 622,164 people have come to the park, up from 589,046 in the same period last year. That’s also the highest count through July since 2004. That year there were 631,503 recreational visits in the first seven months.
Visits to the northwest corner of the park are up significantly. There have been 19,417 visitors counted at Mowich Lake through July, up 121.1 percent from last year. The Carbon River count of 15,492 is 41 percent higher than in 2009.
