Undercover officers and various uniformed personnel will board public buses today to cut down on disruptive and illegal behavior.
The zero-tolerance enforcement program, “Not On Our Bus,” will last through Sept. 10 and is intended to improve life on bus routes, at transit centers and at bus stops near high schools.
Pierce Transit and Tacoma police will conduct spot checks to ensure that conduct codes are being followed. Violators can be excluded from services for 90 days.
During last year’s enforcement program, law enforcement officers made 750 contacts and banned 68 people for disorderly behavior or criminal activity.
Emphasis areas:
• Pierce Transit routes 1, 2, 10, 11, 16, 42, 51, 53.
• Pierce Transit facilities including Lakewood Mall Transit Center, Tacoma Community College Transit Center, Tacoma Dome Station and Tacoma Mall Transit Center.
• Tacoma Public Schools including Foss, Lincoln, Mount Tahoma, Oakland, Stadium and Wilson high schools and the Science and Math Institute.
