Real estate agent Michael Hellickson vowed Thursday to fight the license suspension handed down by the state last Friday for alleged wrongdoing, mostly during so-called short sales.

Real estate agent Michael Hellickson vowed Thursday to fight the license suspension handed down by the state last Friday for alleged wrongdoing, mostly during so-called short sales.

He had a hearing set for this morning before a judge to fight to get back his and his wife’s licenses to sell real estate. The licenses were temporarily suspended when the Department of Licensing filed the complaint.

Before Michael and Tara Hellickson’s website was taken down, it boasted that the Pierce County couple were the No. 1 real estate agents in Washington, Oregon and Hawaii. But according to state Department of Licensing documents, neither has ever been licensed to sell real estate in Oregon or Hawaii.

According to the documents, 27 complaints of misconduct have been filed against the Hellicksons in the past two years.

The Boise City council agreed to sell three properties — 5005 W. Greenbrier Dr., 1482 E. Carter Ln. and 2244 N. Sunrise Ave. — to low- or moderate-income families.

The city bought each of the properties from HUD for $1.

HUD underwrites loans to homebuyers. When those borrowers default and properties have been languishing on the market, HUD is allowed to sell the properties to cities for resale. The program has existed nationally for a long time, said Jim Birdsall, from the City of Boise Housing and Community Development office, but it had not been commonly used in Boise because the real estate market had been strong.
