An arsonist is responsible for a fire that severely damaged a South Tacoma home Sunday, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

The blaze broke out just before 10 a.m. in the living room of a house in the 5600 block of South Verde Street. The homeowners were out of town at the time.

It took 26 firefighters 30 minutes to knock down the flames.

An incendiary device caused the fire, which is still under investigation.
